What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is the most common form of gum inflammation, caused mainly by the accumulation of plaque and bacteria around the teeth.

If not treated promptly, it can develop into periodontitis, threatening teeth and gums health and the bone surrounding them.

Causes

The cause is any condition that favors plaque accumulation, such as:

  • Bad oral hygiene

  • Damaged old dental fillings

  • Old dental crowns

  • Tooth decay

  • Hormonal changes (pregnancy)

  • Medications

Symptoms

  • Redness and gum swelling

  • Bleeding during tooth brushing or flossing
  • Bad breath

  • Gum sensitivity
Gingivitis is totally reversible if its treated at its initial stages.

Prevent & Treat Gingivits

Daily Oral Care

  • Proper tooth brushing

  • Dental floss to remove plaque between teeth

Professional Teeth Cleaning

Teeth cleaning by the dentist removes plaque and tartar that cannot be removed by the toothbrush.

If necessary, mouth rinsing an antibacterial chlorhexidine mouthwash for a period of several days is also recommended.
